BricsCAD V26.2: what the mid-cycle update actually delivered

Bricsys, now operating as Octave, shipped BricsCAD V26.2 on March 31, 2026. For the typical drafter on a Lite or Pro seat, the substance of this release lives in two places: an AI side panel that finally answers product questions in product, and the Dynamic Block authoring toolset that V26.0 left unfinished.

Octave billed V26.2 as 30 new and enhanced features. The number is marketing.

The substantive subset groups into three areas, in the order they will actually reach DraftingBench’s readership.

First is BricsCAD Assist, the AI side panel that ships across tiers. This is the V26.2 change most working drafters will meet on day one.

Second is Dynamic Block authoring. V26.2 adds constraint parameters and lookup tables to the BEDIT environment introduced in V26.0, completing the cycle’s headline feature for base-version block authors.

The same restriction that applied at launch still applies: US users remain locked out for licensing reasons.

Third is a set of cloud and PLM connectors, flagged immediately for what they are. Autodesk Construction Cloud, Bentley ProjectWise, Siemens Teamcenter, and Autodesk Vault integrations ship for BricsCAD BIM and Mechanical only.

The cloud platforms involved are concentrated in US-market AEC firms. For most readers on Lite or Pro, this section is background, not the upgrade case.

The remainder of the release is cycle completion. BIM and Mechanical pick up faster section generation, IFC export filters with profiles, local sheet metal repair, and associative title blocks (source 2).

Useful work for the tiers that use it.

BricsCAD Assist is a side panel that answers product questions: how to use a feature, where to find a setting, what a command does. It draws on the BricsCAD documentation and help system.

It does not read the active drawing, does not write geometry, and does not run as a conversational design partner.

The contrast with Autodesk Assistant, shipping as a tech preview in AutoCAD 2027 (R26.0), is the philosophical difference covered in the MCP-arrival analysis.

Autodesk is heading toward a drawing-aware agent across the cycle. Bricsys has shipped a narrower thing that works today (source 3).

Different design choices, both defensible. The Bricsys version is in production now; the Autodesk vision will be tested as the AutoCAD 2027 cycle progresses.

The V26.0 BEDIT environment landed with visibility states, stretch and move actions, and linear and polar parameters. Constraint parameters and AutoCAD-style lookup tables were partially supported at best.

The V26 review noted that Bricsys’s own blog described the feature set as “not yet complete”.

V26.2 closes most of that gap. Constraint parameters now let a block author drive geometry from a small parametric model rather than from a stack of stretch actions.

The new lookup tables map named configurations to parameter values the way AutoCAD’s have for years (source 2).

For the base-version drafter who authors blocks for production libraries, this is the version of V26 that pays back the upgrade. A multi-configuration door, window, or furniture symbol can now be built and maintained inside BricsCAD without round-tripping through AutoCAD.

The licensing caveat from V26.0 is unchanged. Dynamic Block authoring remains marked experimental, gated behind EXPERIMENTALMODE, and unavailable to users in the United States.

These features ship for BricsCAD BIM and Mechanical only. Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) and Bentley ProjectWise are the dominant common data environments for large-project AEC teams.

Both are concentrated in the US market. For the typical drafter on Lite or Pro, this is background, not an upgrade trigger.

For the narrow audience it does serve, V26.2 closes a real participation gap. A BricsCAD BIM shop can now open a drawing from ACC or ProjectWise, edit it in product, and save it back without manual export and reupload (source 1).

The Mechanical-tier additions extend the same logic to Siemens Teamcenter (PLM) and Autodesk Vault (PDM). BricsCAD Mechanical enters managed engineering stacks for the first time at a credible depth.

One qualification matters. Bricsys is not an Autodesk Platform Services partner.

That means the ACC connector is API-level integration rather than the deeper platform-level relationship that Revit and Civil 3D enjoy. Support paths run through Bricsys, and the round-trip fidelity will be tested across real projects before the integration’s depth is fully understood.

The honest framing: if you bid on work that requires ACC or ProjectWise, V26.2 means a BricsCAD BIM shop is no longer ruled out before the conversation starts. It does not erase the platform-partner gap.

For the base-version drafter on V26.0, V26.2 is the version of the cycle that earns the maintenance window. BricsCAD Assist lands in product and the Dynamic Block toolset is finished enough for production library work.

Both arrive without a tier upgrade.

For users still on V25 or earlier, the case for moving to V26 still holds, and V26.2 makes it easier to justify.

For BIM and Mechanical shops, this is the version of V26 where the cloud and PLM integrations exist. If your team already works in ACC or ProjectWise, V26.2 gives you a more practical reason to consider BricsCAD BIM or Mechanical.

One note on branding. The Octave nameplate is corporate restructuring, not product news.

The software is still BricsCAD.
